A Guide to our Appointments System

Our aim is for patients to be seen by a health care professional within 24 hours, or by a GP within 48 hours.

Reception is open for making appointments and for general inquiries by telephoning 01761 432121 Monday-Friday 8am-6pm.

One Appointment One Problem

Please help our clinicians to run on time by booking a double appointment if you have more than one problem to discuss or feel your problem is too complex to be dealt with in a 10 minute appointment.

In addition to routine appointments, which can usually be booked at least two weeks in advance, we also offer the following types of appointments:

Same Day Appointments (Triage)

All requests for a same day appointment or advice will now be dealt with by our triage system. A receptionist will ask for a brief description of the problem and then a doctor or nurse will call you back to assess, offer advice, or book an appointment for you to visit the surgery if necessary.

Early Morning Appointments

Appointments are available with a nurse or doctor from 07.30am on Wednesday & Friday mornings to make it easier for patients with day-time commitments to get to the surgery at a time convenient to them. These appointments can be booked in advance – Please contact reception on 01761 432121.

Telephone Appointments

If you have a problem for which you would like advice that you feel can be dealt with over the telephone, you can book a telephone consultation with a doctor.

Your doctor or nurse may offer to phone you with test results to save you having to come to the surgery, or if you have seen a doctor or nurse with a problem they may offer to make a follow up telephone call.

Home Visits

For patients that are housebound and unwell, please telephone  01761 432121 and request a home visit. Please try to contact the surgery before 10.30am with this request.

Our receptionist may ask for a little more detail than usual, to assist the Doctor to prepare for the visit.

Improved Access

From 1st October 2018, you can also book routine appointments with a local GP or Nurse on weekday evenings 6pm-8pm or at a weekend 8am-11am. These will be at a ‘BaNES General Practice Hub’, provided by an organisation called BEMS (‘BANES Enhanced Medical Services’ which is a GP federation whose members are all the GP Practices in B&NES). This is for non-urgent appointments only.

Ask your surgery receptionist for more details about what this service can offer or if you wish to book an appointment with this service.

“Under the Notice issued by the Secretary of State on 20th March 2020 made under Regulation 3(4) of the Health Service (Control of Patient Information) Regulations 2002 (COPI) which was addressed to GP Practices, NHS England and NHS Improvement are collating practice level data on the utilisation of online and video consultation systems. This is to support service delivery including implementation, resourcing, planning and research to respond appropriately during the pandemic. The information is being collected directly from online consultation and video consultation suppliers. This practice level information on the availability and use of online and video consultation services will be shared with the department of health and social care, national NHS, regional, system, CCG, PCN and practice teams.”
